GOVERNOR CELEBRATES COAST GUARD'S 217TH BIRTHDAY

August 4 - In honor of the United States Coast Guard's 217th birthday, Governor Lingle attended the 2007 Coast Guard District 14 Ball. 

"Thank you for helping the state in times of need and for putting your lives on the line so the rest of us may live in freedom and peace," the Governor said as she shared her appreciation for the Coast Guard's work to provide for the safety of Hawai`i residents.

The U.S. Coast Guard District 14 is responsible for 12.2 million square miles in the Pacific and has 1,100 active duty personnel, 200 reservists and 200 civilian employees.  The men and women of Team Hawai‘i carry out a variety of Coast Guard missions including safety, marine and environmental protection, maritime law enforcement, waterways management and national defense.
