GOVERNOR KICKS OFF FAMILY CAREGIVERS MONTH

November 5 - At a news conference to kick off Family Caregivers Month, Governor Lingle released $775,000 in funds to the Executive Office on Aging.

The funding, part of Act 204, will support the Aging and Disability Resource Center Project and the Kupuna Care in-home and access services expansion to care for recipients and family caregivers.

The Governor also called for tax relief for those who care for family members in their homes.

"You are providing not just a wonderful service for your family members, but for society as well," Governor Lingle said.

"It's saving society money, to have you care for your own family members," the Governor added. "We feel you should get some sort of financial relief through tax credit."

Family Caregivers Month is a nationally recognized month celebrated to raise awareness of the many challenges facing family caregivers, to advocate for stronger public policy to address family caregiving issues, and to educate the public about community programs that support family caregivers.
