GOVERNOR HONORS ONELAU`ENA HOMELESS SHELTER VOLUNTEERS

January 26 - "It's not just about rebuilding a facility... you gave residents of Onelau`ena hope that tomorrow will be better," Governor Lingle said as she thanked the individuals and organizations who worked to open and the Onelau`ena homeless shelter in Kalaeloa.  The facility, which opened on October 29, serves approximately 215 people who had been living on the beaches along O`ahu's Leeward Coast.  During their stay at the transitional shelter, residents are provided services including drug education, employment/skill development, parenting advice, legal services, relationship building, finance and budgeting tips, and `ohana leadership training.  Onelau`ena is a partnership between the state, military, service providers and the community and is part of the Administration's efforts to address the state's homeless problem.
