GOVERNOR WELCOMES NINTH CIRCUIT COURT JUDICIAL CONFERENCE TO HAWAI`I

July 16 - "The Ninth Circuit Court has an impact that extends far beyond this region," Governor Lingle said as she welcomed judges, judiciary employees, representatives of government agencies, and attorneys from throughout the western United States to the Ninth Circuit Judicial Conference.  "The decisions you reach play a significant role in the Pacific and around the world," she added.

The Governor also thanked the judges for their work each day to uphold the principles of democracy, and for their initiative to recognize and celebrate diversity.

The Ninth Circuit Court Judicial Conference included various business meetings and a rich educational program focusing on drug abuse policy, secrecy and privacy in the electronic age, and the role of courts in wartime.

Headquartered in San Francisco, the Ninth Circuit is the largest of the thirteen courts of appeals, with 28 active judgeships.
