GOVERNOR HONORS FALLEN SOLDIERS

August 29 - "Hawai`i and our nation have lost 14 brave men - 14 heroes," Governor Lingle said at a memorial service for Schofield Barracks soldiers who lost their lives when a Black Hawk helicopter crashed in northern Iraq last week.

"The hearts of the people of Hawai`i are heavy with sadness as we mourn their loss and honor their sacrifice," the Governor added.

The four-member helicopter crew was from Fort Lewis, Washington, and all 10 passengers were from Schofield's 2nd Battalion, 35th Infantry, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division.

As a tribute to Hawai`i's fallen heroes, Governor Lingle ordered all U.S. and Hawai‘i state flags at state, county and federal buildings and facilities to fly at half staff on the day of the memorial, from sunrise to sunset.
