GOVERNOR TOURS CHINATOWN TO PROMOTE BUSINESS

July 30 - Governor Lingle visited several Chinatown businesses to meet with owners and discuss issues surrounding the recent recalls of food imported from China and offer support for their business.

"[The merchants] feel the majority of the reduction in business they may have experienced this month is really something seasonal and not tied to food scares, product scares in China," Governor Lingle said.

The Governor was accompanied by Dr. Chiyome Fukino, director of the Department of Health, and Ted Liu, director of the Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism. The officials were also joined by representatives from Chinese community organizations, including the Teo Chew Chinese Association, Chinese Chamber of Commerce and the Association of Chinese from Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos.
