GOVERNOR SIGNS LEGISLATION TO SUPPORT HAWAI`I INNOVATION INITIATIVE

May 30 - "Technology is moving in terms of weeks and months, not years," Governor Lingle said during a meeting of the Kaua`i Chamber of Commerce.  During her keynote remarks, the Governor updated members on the Hawai`i Innovation Initiative, as well as legislation passed this session to support this effort to transform the state’s economy using the ideas and insights of the people of Hawai`i.

Governor Lingle also approved a measure to lower the unemployment insurance payments for businesses and signed a key piece of legislation into law that supports the Hawai`i Innovation Initiative.  The initiatve provides Hawai‘i students with world-class analytical and problem-solving skills developed through science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education.

"Instead of running away from a problem, these kids run toward it and discover a solution," Governor Lingle said of students engaged in programs that promote STEM skills.
