GOVERNOR RELEASES $75,532,466 FOR AIRPORT IMPROVEMENTS

September 18 - Governor Lingle released $75,532,466 for four projects at Honolulu International Airport (HNL) as part of her Administration’s $2.3 billion, 12-year airports modernization plan.

"Airports are truly our connection to the world," the Governor said.  "They allow us to visit family and friends, help people to operate businesses and facilitate interstate commerce."

The Governor made the announcement at a groundbreaking ceremony for a new parking 1,800-stall parking structure at Honolulu International Airport.

Of the $75 million released, $16,229,000 will be used for the construction of a new parking structure at Honolulu International Airport; $58,250,000 will be used to construct an in-line Explosive Detection System (EDS) at four ticket lobbies in the airport’s Overseas Terminal, as well as a stand-alone EDS system at Ticket Lobby 6 of the Overseas Terminal; $1,000,000 will be used to replace and relocate HNL’s Diamond Head Chiller Plant. Upgrades will equip the Diamond Head Chiller Plant to air-condition the entire airport while the ‘Ewa and Overseas Terminal Chiller Plants undergo separate renovations; and $53,466 will be used to combine HNL’s flight information display screens and public address system into a single audio-visual information system to aid the hearing-impaired as part of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
