WORLD WAR II VETERANS HONORED BY GOVERNOR

September 30 - Governor Lingle attended the O`ahu American Japanese Association's 2nd annual joint memorial service honoring fallen World War II veterans of the 100th Infantry Battalion, 442nd Regimental Combat Team, Military Intelligence Service and the 1399th Engineer Construction Battalion.

"The service was a great tribute to the young men who sacrificed their lives so we may live in freedom and liberty," the Governor said following the service.

As part of the Lingle-Aiona Administration's commitment to Hawai`i's veterans, the Governor released $750,000 last month for the construction of an education center at the Nisei Veterans Memorial Center on Maui.

The education center will house Nisei veterans' archives from World War II, including books, oral histories, photographs and other documents. The center has also partnered with the state Department of Education and the Go for Broke Educational Foundation of California to host seminars for high school students.
