Healthy Eating for Healthy Aging (HEHA) |
The goal of Healthy Eating for Healthy Aging (HEHA) is to improve the nutrition choices made by King County residents through education, partnership and program development. The primary audiences of this project include King County adults and seniors who are Basic Food Program recipients or eligible and the agencies that serve them.
Individuals and agencies are contacted through “Come Taste” cooking and nutrition education classes at Senior Centers, Senior Housing buildings, community centers and senior and ethnic meal programs. Cooking classes emphasize simple, low-cost ingredients and the benefits of eating more fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. Nutrition education classes emphasize prevention of chronic disease and healthful eating across the lifespan. HEHA works with a variety of community partners, including the Seattle Housing Authority, Senior Services, Aging and Disability Services, and others who serve the diverse community of adults and seniors in King County.
