As a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne, Stanley Weinberg got the jump on the beachhead invasions, helping to liberate St. Mere Eglise at dawn of June 6. In their first month of action in France, his unit engaged five enemy divisions. His daughter Ann assembled a scrapbook of his exploits, which includes evocative photos of her father in various locales in the months following the invasion. A modest selection of his correspondence reflects Weinberg's perpetually optimistic attitude in the face of so many traumatic events.
