Check Cashing - Chapter 480F, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is Hawaii's law on the business of check cashing. The DFI does not administer or interpret this law. Consumer complaints regarding check cashers should be directed to the Consumer Resource Center (CRC) of the Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs by calling (808) 587-3222 and selecting menu option #3. To call toll-free from the neighbor islands: From Kauai dial 274-3141, from Maui dial 984-2400, from the Big Island dial 974-4000, and from Molokai or Lanai dial 1-800-468-4644; and when prompted, enter the extension number of the CRC which is 73222.

Credit Sales - See, Chapter 476, Hawaii Revised Statutes, " Credit Sales". The DFI does not administer or interpret Chapter 476. Inquiries regarding this Chapter should be directed to the Office of Consumer Protection (OCP), which is a division of the State's Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs.

Debt Adjusting - See, Chapter 446, Hawaii Revised Statutes, "Debt Adjusting". The DFI does not administer or interpret Chapter 446. Inquiries regarding this Chapter should be directed to the Office of Consumer Protection (OCP), which is a division of the State's Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs.

Insurance Premium Finance Companies - The State of Hawaii currently does not specifically license insurance premium finance companies, but depending upon the manner in which the business is conducted, a company may need to be licensed as a nondepository financial services loan company under Article 9 of Chapter 412, Hawaii Revised Statutes.
