AIRPORTS MODERNIZATION PLAN FOCUS OF THE GOVERNOR’S COUNCIL OF ADVISORS FOR KAUA`I

LIHU`E – The Governor’s Kaua`i Council of Advisors will meet on Thursday, June 8, at 5:00 p.m. in meeting rooms 2A & 2B of the Moikeha Bldg., 4444 Rice St. 

Brian Sekiguchi, deputy director - airports, Department of Transportation, and Marsha Wienert, state tourism liaison, will brief the Council of Advisors on the Airports Modernization Plan.  In March, Governor Linda Lingle and members of the Administration unveiled a comprehensive plan to upgrade major airports on O`ahu, Maui, Kaua`i and the Big Island.  The $2.3 billion, 12-year Airports Modernization Plan was developed in conjunction with the Airlines Committee of Hawai`i and other airport and visitor industry partners.  Seikiguchi and Weinert will discuss the overall plan and focus on the upgrades that directly affect Lihu`e Airport.

Governor Lingle created councils of advisors to give the neighbor islands a stronger voice in state government.  The Kaua`i Council of Advisors holds monthly public meetings to seek community input and advise the Governor of important issues, budget priorities, and recommendations for state boards and commissions.
