About the Budget Library

The Budget Library is a one-stop searchable database for crop and livestock enterprise budget information. It is designed to provide online access to current enterprise budget information and software from throughout the United States. Search features allow the user to identify budgets by state and enterprise. Keyword searches allow additional refinement to focus on farm size, cultivation practices, contact person, and other criteria.

The Budget Library represents the merger of the Southern Extension Farm Management Committee's (SEFMC) enterprise budget catalog and the Center for Farm Financial Management budget library. The SEFMC project began in 2000 with development of a survey to identify existing budgets and software, methods used to develop them, and resources committed to development and maintenance. In addition, the SEFMC conducted 2 workshops (2002 and 2003) for research and extension professionals on budget software and techniques. SEFMC project leaders included Geoff Benson, North Carolina State University, Damona Doye, Oklahoma State University, Larry Falconer, Texas A&M University, Gordon Groover, Virginia Tech, and Gregg Ibbendahl, Mississippi State University with financial support from the Southern Region Risk Management Education Center Extension Center.

The Center for Farm Financial Management Budget Library was originated in 2002 as part of USDA's Risk Management Education initiative. CFFM staff populated the library by cataloging and linking to University and Extension Service web sites across the country.

The merged library is maintained by the Center for Farm Financial Management in cooperation with SEFMC. Additions to the library are encouraged.
