ENERGY STAR Labeled Building Profile

Cozad East Elementary School
420 East 14th Street
Cozad, NE 69130

building

Cozad East Elementary School is located in Cozad, Nebraska. In 2002, the school added classrooms, a gymnasium, and locker rooms to the existing building. During this renovation, ground source heat pumps were installed throughout the entire facility. The ground heat exchanger, or underground pipe network used to reclaim heat from the ground, consists of 96 boreholes that are each 200 feet deep and backfilled with thermally-enhanced grout.

Energy recovery ventilators are used to deliver outside air to the facility, and the circulating pumps have variable frequency drives. The gymnasium has carbon dioxide sensors which maintain proper ventilation levels. An energy management system is used to schedule equipment operations and adjust temperature settings.
