"You see Anne our mail is the only thing that keeps our hearts and our chins way up there and I need someone at home that I can talk to in our mail and my little sister Flo is a little too young to unfathom my letters so Anne may I talk to you in our letters?" View Full Description

In 1943, Arnie Robbins, a heavy equipment operator stationed in Iceland, saw Anne Hass in a group photograph a buddy had received from home. He prevailed on his pal to encourage Anne to write to him, and she offered to be Arnie's "homefront reporter." Friendship blossomed into romance, and in June 1945, while in New York on a two-week leave, Arnie proposed that he and Anne marry and spend his furlough as their honeymoon. Their marriage endured until Arnie's death in 1994.
