Big Bend National Park will be dedicating the newly expanded and renovated Panther Junction Visitor Center, located at the park’s main headquarters in Panther Junction, on May 1st at 3:00 PM. The public is both invited and welcomed to help celebrate this important park milestone.

Visitor Center Construction to Continue Through Spring Break
Each year March brings many things to Big Bend National Park: wildflowers, cactus blooms, mild temperatures, and spring break visitors. The busiest Spring Break timeframe this year will likely be March 8 - 22, when many of the Texas public schools and universities are on vacation; the following week will also see increased visitation from other regions.

Big Bend National Park Seeks Comments on Construction of Walking Trail at Dorgan/Sublett Historic Site
Big Bend National Park, is seeking public comment on a proposal to construct a ½-mile walking trail to allow visitors to see and learn about the historic Dorgan and Sublett farm site, located near the Rio Grande between Castolon and Santa Elena Canyon. The proposal is contained in a Draft Environmental Assessment that is available for public review and comment.

National Guard Backcountry Roadwork Repair Continuing at Big Bend National Park
A National Guard unit consisting of 12 people is continuing their 60 day commitment in Big Bend National Park towards repairing several badly eroded sections of backcountry dirt road along River Road East. The road repairs are part of a cooperative effort between the Park, the National Guard, and the U.S. Border Patrol. Repairs began the week of January 7th and will continue until early March.

Dedication of a life-sized, bronze peregrine falcon sculpture will be held February 15 starting at 5:00 PM at the Basin Visitor Center in Big Bend National Park.

The May 5, 1916 raid on the communities of Glenn Springs and Boquillas, Texas by Mexican raiders led to a second American expeditionary force into Mexico to rescue two American captives. Today, the site of Glenn Springs is accessible via a primitive dirt road.
