"The homeless problem on the Leeward Coast has become a major issue for our entire community, and one that will take all of us, working together, to solve. During a recent meeting in Wai`anae, more than 500 residents, service providers, businesses, churches, the military and the homeless, shared their frustrations about the situation. They also shared optimism that solutions will be found to this multi-layered problem, and offered their assistance, partnerships and ideas. Working with the community, our Administration is focused on creating emergency shelters as well as transitional shelters where the homeless can get the services they need to become self-sufficient. For the longer term, we are focused on increasing the availability of affordable rentals. I am hopeful and confident that as a community, we can work together to solve the homeless problem on the Leeward Coast and throughout our state."
