December 8, 2007 - Hawai'i's College Savings Program

By Lt. Governor James "Duke" Aiona, Jr.

Aloha,

Preparing our students for higher education is a top priority of our Administration.  By launching Hawai‘i 5-2-9 – Hawai‘i’s College Savings Program, we are helping families plan for the financial burden of a college education.

On behalf of Governor Lingle, I announced this week that our Administration is partnering with the Department of Education and the Hawai‘i Association of Independent Schools to enhance the State’s college savings plan.

Investment earnings under this new plan are exempt from federal and State income taxes.

Hawai‘i’s college savings program allows parents to plan early for the cost of their children’s college education and to make prudent investments today to benefit their children and grandchildren tomorrow.

Mahalo.  This is Lt. Governor James R. “Duke” Aiona, Jr.
