"This week the state legislature convened in a special session to address important issues facing our state. These included preserving an inter-island transportation alternative, clarifying the State's extended sentencing law and the confirmation of close to 100 individuals to serve on our boards and commissions, as well as directors of three critical state departments.

Many members of the public participated in the process by making phone calls, sending emails and letters to their state legislators and my office as well as coming to the Capitol to testify in person.

I truly appreciate the time that Hawai`i residents took from their very busy schedules to participate in the operations of their state government and to share their diverse opinions on a wide variety of issues."
