"Building on the success of my Administration's prior official missions to Asia, I am leading a business trip to Jakarta, Indonesia, then on to Tokyo and Okinawa, Japan.

I am focused on increasing security and emergency preparedness partnerships between Hawai`i and Indonesia, as well as promoting tourism and business opportunities with Japan.

Hawai`i serves as the perfect geographical and cultural bridge between East and West.  By enhancing our relationships with these nations, we will advance our Administration's long-term goals to expand and diversify Hawai`i's economy, provide a wide range of opportunities for our young people to become leaders in the Pacific region, and increase the quality of life for all the people of Hawai`i.
