"2007 ushered in several new laws to make our roads safer.

To crack down on underage drinking and drunk driving, the new 'use and lose' law will suspend the driver's license of anyone under 21 who purchases, possesses or consumes alcohol.

A second law will deter excessive speeding by increasing penalties for anyone who drives more than 30 miles per hour over the posted speed limit or 80 miles per hour or more.

A third law designed to protect children requires the use of a child safety seat or booster seat for children ages 4 to 7 when riding in a car.

These new laws are part of the state's ongoing efforts to keep our streets safe, and protect motorists and pedestrians.

Please drive with aloha. Together, we can save lives."
