"Last weekend, our University of Hawai`i Warrior football team made history by winning their first Western Athletic Conference Championship.  

The student-athletes, managers and coaches have continued to impress us with their focus, perseverance and execution both on and off the field.

Their hard work day in and day out led to the accomplishment of an incredible goal – one that all Hawai`i residents can be proud of. 

Like many of you, I believe that their success transcends the scoreboard at Aloha Stadium or a trophy.

Their Championship has both short- and long-term positive effects on our state's national image and our economy here at home.

I hope you will continue to cheer on our Warriors as they compete against the University of Washington Huskies this weekend and in the upcoming bowl game."
