"It is disappointing that the Legislature convened a special session to override bills which I felt necessary to veto.

They demonstrated again this year their unwillingness to work collaboratively with my Administration to make common sense amendments and simple fixes to bills that will ultimately be subject to legal challenges or cause negative fiscal impacts.

The Legislature failed to fulfill its responsibility to serve the best interests of all the people of Hawai`i and instead, used pure political power to enact laws that will put the public's safety at risk, could reduce our ability to repair highways and bridges, and could negatively impact our state's fiscal integrity.

My Administration appreciates the tremendous input we received from you, the public. Your comments were key factors in my decision to veto, sign or allow bills to become law without my signature."
