"To help create a higher standard of living, while preserving Hawai`i's unique way of life, my Administration is proposing a comprehensive Innovation Initiative that will establish a strong foundation for our state in today's global economy.

This bold initiative incorporates five interrelated components that focus on innovation in education, the economy, workforce development, linking Hawai`i to the global economy, and state government.

It is designed to develop the skills and talents of our people, while reducing our dependence on land development as the chief driver of economic development.
This comprehensive package will support Hawai`i's traditional industries with increased productivity and higher paying jobs in new industries that capitalize on the ingenuity of our residents.

Together, we can help make Hawai`i competitive and successful in the global economy."
