December 2, 2007 - Inter-Island Ferry Service

"On Thursday, December 6, the Hawai‘i Superferry will re-launch its interisland transportation service between the islands of O‘ahu and Maui.

I'm excited that this important transportation alternative will finally be available for the people.

Families will be able to visit one another with ease, or travel to another island for medical care.  Farmers will be able to ship fresh produce between the islands, which will mean fresher food at the grocery store. And businesses will now be able to expand their services statewide.

I also want to thank everyone involved in the process for working through a long, detailed and collaborative exercise in democracy.  Your actions are an incredible example of how all levels of government can partner with private organizations to provide solutions to challenges and new opportunities for our state.

The resumption of the Superferry service between our islands will ultimately benefit all Hawai‘i residents."
