"To help create a higher standard of living, while preserving Hawai`i's unique way of life, my Administration has proposed the Hawai`i Innovation Initiative that will help us to cultivate the innovation potential of Hawai`i's people.

This bold legislation incorporates several key elements including innovation in education.
This effort will help us to develop the analytical and problem solving skills of our students, as we shift our focus toward science, technology, engineering and math, or STEM education.  Supporting this type of education, combined with project-based learning, we will better prepare our students to compete in the global workforce, which is increasingly STEM focused.

As a comprehensive package, the Hawai`i Innovation Initiative will help make Hawai`i competitive and successful in the global economy while continuing to prosper at home."
