"All of us have an obligation to protect what makes Hawai`i a unique and special place.

The recent dedication of the eleven hundred acre Pupukea Paumalu reserve on O`ahu's North Shore marks another successful public-private partnership to conserve our precious environment.

While the State Parks staff will manage the majority of Pupukea Paumalu, ongoing public input will be critical.  In fact, the success of this project was fueled by North Shore residents, showing that preservation takes active involvement by all Hawai`i residents.

This successful effort also highlights why the Hawai`i Innovation Initiative is key to our state's future.  My Administration is working to reduce our economic dependence on land development, so that we can continue to preserve our natural and cultural resources for future generations."
