June 15, 2007 - Hawai`i Offers Free Flu Vaccinations for Students

"In October, Hawai`i will become the first state in the nation to offer free flu vaccinations to school children between the ages of 5 and 13.

This unprecedented action is intended to protect the health of vulnerable children from the spread of seasonal flu.

The voluntary statewide program will make vaccinating children fast and easy for thousands of families across our state.

For that reason, we are asking parents to allow their children to participate if they are not already getting flu vaccinations from their own physicians.

Few illnesses have as great an impact on our state's health and economy as the seasonal flu, which can result in countless school and work absences, hospitalizations, and even death.

So please consider enrolling your child in this free and easy program this coming school year."
