Motivational Interviewing: An Introduction to Helping People Change

Motivational Interviewing is a client-centered, directive method for enhancing intrinsic motivation to change by exploring and resolving ambivalence.

- Kathy Silverman is a Health Educator with the HIV/AIDS Program. She trains on HIV/AIDS, counseling skills, crisis and suicide assessment and intervention, harm reduction, and behavior change. Kathy is also a WA State HIV Prevention Counseling Trainer.
- Susan Kingston is a Drug Use and HIV Prevention Health Educator with the HIV/AIDS Program and trains on harm reduction, HIV prevention, and counseling strategies with substance users. She specializes in injection drug use, methamphetamine, and substance use among gay/bisexual men.
NOTE: This workshop requires in-person attendance in Seattle, WA. This is not a web-based course. Based on multiple queries, we also do not offer scholarships nor funding of any kind.

Each workshop includes
- 2 days of blended theory, discussion and hands-on practice of core MI skills.
- A third to day to debrief and hone skills after a period of real-life practice.

CE credits:
15.2 CE hours are offered for this workshop.
Public Health - Seattle & King County is approved to provide CE credits by the WA State Department of Health and the WA State Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.
