Final Environmental Assessment for Proposed
Construction of the Edward M. Golson Jr.
Boat Launch and Nature Park

The final Environmental Assessment (EA) was approved on December 20, 2001.  The Proposed Alternative was selected which will provide for the development of a boat launch site and nature park on the Saginaw River in Bay City, Michigan.  The proposed site would provide boat launch ramps, areas for viewing the river, and nature trails along the river on approximately 33 acres of property.  Development of the recreational area, located at the end of Johnson Street in Bay City, is the result of a settlement for natural resource damages reached by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the State of Michigan, and the Saginaw Chippewa Tribe with General Motors Corporation and the Cities of Bay City and Saginaw.  Two other Alternatives were considered which included the No Action Alternative and an alternative site design.

An electronic copy of the final EA is available below.    Printed copies may be requested from Dr. Lisa Williams by writing to the East Lansing Field Office, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, 2651 Coolidge Road, East Lansing, Michigan, 48823, by telephone (517-351-2555) or via electronic mail to:  lisa_williams@fws.gov   .
