The nutrition labeling regulation is being implemented in three phases:

• Phase 1: Chain restaurants will have between August 1 and December 31, 2008 to complete nutrition labeling for standard menu items or to show their Public Health inspector that they are taking steps toward meeting the regulation. Starting August 1, 2008 chain restaurants will receive a violation if they cannot show how they are preparing to meet the regulation.
  
  
• Phase 2: Starting January 1, 2009 the nutrition labeling regulation goes into full effect. Chain restaurants will receive a violation if the required nutrition information has not been posted using an approved method. Drive-throughs at chain food restaurants are exempt at this phase.
  
  
• Phase 3: Starting August 1, 2009, drive-throughs at chain food restaurants must have nutrition information posted.
