Minnesota moves to B5, upping standard, benefits

Summary: Minnesota is again leading the nation in the charge to keep valuable jobs in the U.S., decrease dependence on foreign oil and lessen environmental impacts. The state is the first to require that diesel fuel contain a 5 percent blend of homegrown, renewable biodiesel.
CO: Dust Storms Escalate, Prompting Environmental Fears

Summary: The Colorado Rockies, including the headwaters of the Colorado River and the Rio Grande, have experienced 11 serious dust storms this year, a record for the six years researchers have been tracking them. More important, an increasing amount of airborne dust is blanketing the region, affecting how fast the snowpack melts, when local plants bloom and what quality of air residents are breathing.
Green Meetings Portal

Summary: A conference content portal designed as a one-stop knowledge source on green meetings practice, policy, and technology was launched this week by the Green Meeting Industry Council (GMIC), in partnership with The Conference Publishers Inc. The Portal will bring together resources for meeting planners, venues, hotels, and destinations to better understand the steps involved in making all meetings sustainable. Organizers expect the site to consolidate key content from at least a dozen conferences in its first six months of operation. Coverage will continue for at least a year.
Damage To Forests From Climate Change Could Cost The Planet Its Major Keeper Of Greenhouse Gases, Study Warns

Summary: The critical role of forests as massive "sinks" for absorbing greenhouse gases is "at risk of being lost entirely" to climate change-induced environmental stresses that threaten to damage and even decimate forests worldwide, according to a new report released April 17. The report will be formally presented at the next session of the United Nations Forum on Forests (UNFF) taking place 20 April-1 May 2009 at the UN Headquarters in New York City.
