Buffalo Resource Management Plan Revision

The Buffalo Field Office May 2008 initiated an amendment to its 1985 Resource Management Plan (RMP) to consider new information from recent inventories and scientific studies. These studies indicate that BLM’s current planning decisions in the Powder River Basin may not be sufficient to prevent the greater sage-grouse from becoming listed under the Endangered Species Act.

After additional discussion, BLM decided to prepare an RMP revision instead of an RMP amendment for the Buffalo Field Office. This approach will ultimately save taxpayer dollars and will address all resource and planning issues in a single document. An amendment would have only considered how various management decisions affect the greater sage-grouse.
