On September 20, 2008, staff from EPA Regions and Headquarters participated in the International Coastal Cleanup Cleanup all over the country. EPA Headquarters staff participated in Washington, DC, at Anacostia Park to help cleanup the Anacostia River. The Anacostia River cleanup was a huge success and EPA would like to thank everyone who volunteered. EPA Headquarters specifically would like to thank Girl Scout Troop #4010 from Fairfax, Virginia, and Troop #2288 from Silver Spring, Maryland, for participating at Anacostia Park. By participating in the 2008 International Coastal Cleanup, these Girl Scouts have completed the requisite number of activities to earn the Water Drop Patch.

Additional information and cleanup results for the 2008 International Coastal Cleanup will be available in Spring 2009.

The International Coastal Cleanup Exit EPA Disclaimer is an annual event that includes over 100 countries and territories bordering every major body of water on Earth. It is the world's largest volunteer effort to clean up the marine environment and collect marine environmental data from both land and underwater sites. In 2007, over 375,000 people around the world removed about six million pounds of debris from more than 33,000 miles of coasts, shorelines and underwater sites. For more information about the 2007 cleanup, please read the 2007 ICC Report. Exit EPA Disclaimer
