Welcome to the Office of Research Services

 

The University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) is committed to becoming nationally recognized for its research. UMKC is a core member of the regional life sciences consortium and continues to construct new research laboratories, hire top quality faculty, identify, promote, and establish disease-defined centers of excellence, and enlarge our research infrastructure.

The Office of the Vice Provost for Research - Office of Research Services (ORS) is a core element of the university’s research infrastructure.  Our mission is to support the scientific, scholarly, and creative endeavors of the faculty and staff at UMKC. 


Departments

Pre-Award Support
Provides proposal and budget development support services to faculty and staff necessary to identify, develop, and submit grant and contract applications and administers internal funding opportunities (UMRB, FRG, Travel Grants).

Post-Award Administration Support
Provides fiscal support necessary to responsibly manage the funds awarded, consistent with University policy, requirements of funding sources, and federal regulations and and time/effort reporting (A-21).

Research Support

Research Protections: Ensures and documents research and services that are conducted in accordance with the highest regard for ethical standards and conform to federal, state, local and institutional regulatory practices including, but not limited to, protection of human and animal subjects, hazardous materials, biosafety and HIPAA

Research Facilities: Operates and supports university research and serves as an institutional coordinating unit for university core facilities housed in the various academic units.

Intellectual Property Management:  Serves as the focal point for entrepreneurship, economic development, technology transfer and technology commercialization within the University of Missouri-Kansas City

Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR):  Provide education to the UMKC
research community in responsible conduct of research.

 

Public Service Programs
Supports externally funded projects devoted to public services, such as economic development and the transfer of research findings related to substance abuse to treatment and policy communities. 

Life Science Research
The quest to understand the human body is the burden and the joy of life sciences researchers. At the University of Missouri-Kansas City, that discovery takes several forms: basic bench science, translational research, clinical research, health outcomes research, and the technology that enables and advances scientists' work.
