Architect

Do you like solving technical issues? Would you like to develop master specification and design manuals, as well as review those of others? VA Architects are subject matter experts who are leaders in the design and construction of VA facilities.

Typical activities of a VA Architect include:

  • Visiting sites to determine the physical condition of facilities.
  • Educating A/E consultants, contractors, health care representatives, and manufacturers on ways to minimize construction costs.
  • Researching new techniques and the latest developments in construction materials and hardware.
  • Providing expert advice and information to senior officials.

Engineer

Do you have an interest in design guides, construction standards, and master planning? Our engineers have opportunities to work both in Washington, DC and on location at projects nationwide in many capacities, including structural, mechanical, and electrical engineering.

While serving as an Engineer for CFM, you may:

  • Provide technical expertise on structural issues for VA facilities.
  • Research design criteria and state-of-art technology to ensure technical integrity and cost effectiveness.
  • Provide technical support and consultation on advanced engineering methodologies.
  • Serve as an expert on such topics as seismic and wind forces, stress and load calculations, soil capacity criteria, standards, and standard details for structures.
  • Estimate construction cost for various types of projects.

Contract Specialist

How would you like to be the gatekeeper for goods and services needed throughout the lifecycle of a project? As a Contract Specialist, you work in acquisitions for projects involving complex renovations, new construction, and modernization projects for medical buildings and regional offices.

Responsibilities of a Contract Specialist may include:

  • Advising management on the progress, development, and coordination of projects needed to accomplish the overall mission of VA.
  • Defining program and functional requirements.
  • Overseeing design, phasing, bidding, and award procedures.
  • Providing consulting and advisory services to other VA facilities and staff officials.

Real Property Specialist

Does the idea of working on acquisition and management of multi-million dollar leasehold projects excite you? Are you interested in land matters such as acquisitions, easements, and disposals? If so, CFM is the right place for you.

While acting as a Real Property Specialist, you may:

  • Provide technical advice and support services to field offices and VA medical facilities nationwide.
  • Develop and implement realistic, integrated strategies, timetables, financial's, workload, and other resource requirements for each project.
  • Negotiate deals and resolve disputes and/or claims.
  • Monitor project performance, respond to policy directives as they relate to accomplishing the overall mission of VA.

Locations

The CFM Headquarters office is located in Washington, DC.

CFM regional offices are located in Silver Spring, MD; North Chicago, IL; and Mare Island, CA.

  • CFM engineers, contract specialists, and realty specialists are assigned to our headquarters in Washington, DC or to one of the regional offices listed above. However, many work on projects at VA facilities throughout the country. The range of geographic opportunities in the U.S. is unlimited.
