Ready to Quit

Ready?

Do you want resources to help you quit?

Call 1-800-QUIT-NOW.

Identify “triggers” -- people you associate with smoking; places and situations that trigger urges for you to smoke.

Talk with your health care provider or a tobacco cessation counselor {available at 1-800-QUIT-NOW} to discuss effective strategies and to help you be successful.

Set?

Have you set your goal and a date yet? Write them down. Share plans with others who care about you. Recruit a buddy who will support you during your entire effort.

Purge your spaces -- home, office, car, etc. -- of cigarettes, matches, lighters, ashtrays…anything that’s a “trigger” that you can avoid. Vacuum and freshen your home and car. Dry clean your clothes to get rid of smells.

Set milestones for success and plan rewards!

Go!

Plan a first day strategy. Repeat what works.

Reassess frequently; change your strategy as needed.

Some people find that writing down challenges and triumphs helps keep them going.
