Safety & Health

Several DOL agencies and programs focus on ensuring safe and healthy work environments for the nation's workers.

DOL's Occupational Safety and Health Administration works to save lives, prevent injuries and protect the health and safety of America's workers. DOL's Mine Safety and Health Administration protects the health and safety of workers in the nation's mines.

DOL's Employment Standards Administration's Wage and Hour Division oversees the Fair Labor Standards Act's (FLSA) child labor provisions, which specify the jobs young workers may perform and the jobs that are designated too hazardous for them to perform.

Through its Working Partners program, DOL provides information on how to establish drug-free workplace programs that protect worker safety and health. DOL also works to protect the health of the nation's workers by administering the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and standards for employer-provided group health benefits plans.

Use the resources on this page to learn more about workplace safety and health issues. Please note that elaws Advisors have not yet been built for every DOL law and regulation. Therefore, your issue may also be covered under laws not addressed by this Web site.
