Ash Hopper at the historic 1881 Moses Carver House

Did You Know?
Visitors will see an ash hopper at the historic 1881 Moses Carver House. The early settlers mixed cold fireplace ash with rain water in the hopper. The caustic mixture became lye. Animal fat was added for making lye soap. George used lye soap when he operated his laundry business.
