Original Caption Released with Image: This animation strings together three images from the rear hazard-identification camera on the Mars Exploration Rover Opportunity. The "movie" shows the lander before and after it successfully tilted itself forward by hyperextending its rear lander petal downward. This manuever was performed in preparation for egress, or rolling off the lander at Meridiani Planum, Mars. Opportunity will roll north off the lander, opposite this viewpoint. Image Credit: NASA/JPL
