Underground Railroad DVD. (The History Channel, $24.95) This engaging video is appropriate for most age levels, and contains a wealth of information about the history and people of the network.
Freedom’s Crucible: The Underground Railroad in Lawrence and Douglas County, Kansas, 1854-1865, by Richard B. Sheridan. (University of Kansas Press, $19.00) This is the text to read if you want to learn more about the subject in the local region.
Almost to Freedom, by Vaunda Micheaux Nelson. (CarolRhoda Books, $16.95) Beautifully illustrated, this book for ages 6-10 will help today’s children identify with the difficulties of a trek along the Underground Railroad. A Coretta Scott King Honor Book.
