Volunteers with the Willamette and Deschutes National Forests need to fill out a volunteer agreement. You will get details about this when you inquire about helping with one of the projects.

Volunteer bonus! If you itemize deductions on your tax return, expenses incurred for Forest Service volunteer work are tax deductible.

Help monitor and care for many miles of trails and remote campsites in the Willamette National Forest's back country and wilderness areas
Wilderness Trail Head Host Camp at Wilderness trail heads during high use holiday weekends while you educate visitors about good Wilderness recreation practices. Weekends in July & August
Trail Survey Projects Hike trails as they open for the season to check for downed trees, trail and bridge damage and report back to help us gauge the trail crew work needed. June-July

Strenuous work clearing the Crossing Way Trail. 10 mile round trip trail work. August 14-15, 2008

Diamond Peak Wilderness Trail/Lake Work Party
Crescent Ranger District (Deschutes National Forest)

 

Multi-day pack-in trip for trail clearing and cleanup starting at the Trapper Creek trailhead in the beautiful Diamond Peak Wilderness. This work can be strenous so volunteers must be in good physical shape! August 8-11, 2008
Foley Ridge Trail Clear trail of trees downed in winter wind storm July 11-14, 2008
Salmon Lakes Trail
(Waldo Lake Wilderness)
Volunteers will brush and do water drainage. This is a two night three day backpacking trip. August 19-21, 2008
Taylor Burn Road/ Wilderness trail work
(Waldo Lake Wilderness)
Trail work and campsite cleanup in the Waldo Lake Wilderness

Multi-day pack-in trail projects on the Pacific Crest Trail. Tasks include cutting brush, cleaning and constructing water bars, and improving trail tread.

Horse Packers Various Wilderness projects for horse packing volunteers from brushing and tread work to packing in fish. July-September
Backcountry campsite check-up and clean-up Campsites around lakes need to be checked and cleaned early in the season, as well as throughout the summer If you are interested in helping us keep lake areas off trails clean please contact Judy Mitchell. May-Sept
Angling survey Forest Service and ODFW would like to find out if folks are catching fish in the lakes in Wilderness. If you are interested in being part of this survey please contact Judy Mitchell May-October
Noxious weed survey Forest Service botanists are interested in finding and identifying noxious weeds in Wilderness areas. If you would like to seek out and identify noxious weeds please contact Judy Mitchell June-October

Adopt-a-Lake Projects Take pride in a special lake area and help keep lake campsites clean.Good for groups, families, friends working together, or individuals. You set the date

Campground Host
