WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today Congressman David Wu announced a call for applications to the U.S. House of Representatives Congressional Page Program in Washington, DC. Congressman Wu has been selected to nominate a congressional page for the 2009 spring session of the Congressional Page Program, which begins with check-in on Sunday, January 25, 2009 and ends on Saturday, June 6, 2009. The nominee will participate in the Page School program and earn high school credit while working as a House Page.
"This is a tremendous opportunity for young people to see firsthand how our federal government works on a day-to-day basis, as well as a chance to meet other students from around the country who share their interest in public service," said Wu. "Pages provide a vital service to members of Congress by delivering correspondence, answering phones in the Member Cloakrooms, and preparing the House Floor for sessions. I am looking forward to nominating an outstanding student from the 1st Congressional District to participate in this historic program."
More information on the Congressional Page Program is available at http://pageprogram.house.gov. Qualified applicants must be at least sixteen years old prior to the start of the program and enrolled as a junior in high school. They must be a citizen or permanent legal resident of the United States and a full-time resident of the 1st Congressional District. In addition, applicants must have at least a 3.0 GPA in their major subjects.
