The Sunscreen Dance

Listen to The Sunscreen Dance song
by the Swingset Mamas *

Playing outside is so much fun,
Skipping in the sand out in the sun.
But don’t forget to protect your skin,
The part of the body that we’re living in, so…
Grab a bottle from the top of the shelf.
I’ll show you a way to protect yourself --
From New Jersey to Hawaii to the South of France,
Everyone’s doin’ the sunscreen dance...

Any of the activities in the SunWise Tool Kit can be completed while playing the Sunscreen Dance music – to liven up the classroom environment! Here are some specific activities that can be enhanced with the Sunscreen Dance, a fun and educational song by the Swingset Mamas*.

Have the students make a large circle and pretend the ball is the sun. Students pass the ball to each other as music plays. When the music stops, the student with the ball should say one of the sun facts about how to protect the skin and eyes from the sun. For more sun safety tips, please see the SunWisdom section of the Tool Kit or the Sun Safety Action Steps.

Students can do the SunWise Word Search supplemental activity located in the back of the K-2 section of the Tool Kit as a follow-up to this activity.

The Sunscreen Dance music by the Swingset Mamas*.

Directions
Students walk around the chairs, which are set up in a circle while the Sunscreen Dance plays. When the music stops, the students scramble to sit down in a chair. Whichever student is still standing should recite a sun safety fact about how to protect the skin and eyes from the sun. Then, that student dances and claps for the remaining students while the game continues, and the teacher pulls more and more chairs from the circle. For more sun safety tips, please see the SunWisdom section of the Tool Kit or the Sun Safety Action Steps.
