FIREWOOD CAN REDUCE HEATING COSTS
CUSTER, SD: SEPTEMBER 4, 2008
Temperatures are dropping and it is time to think about cost saving
ways to heat your home.
Wood heat is one answer. The Black Hills National Forest is selling
2008 firewood permits now through Dec. 31.
Firewood permits can be purchased at the Supervisor’s Office
in Custer and the Bearlodge, Mystic, and Northern Hills Ranger District
Offices. Please bring a drivers license or other form of I.D.
Free use firewood permits consisting of 4 cords can be obtained
and used in specific areas. Maps are provided at the district offices
that show where free firewood permits are available. Charge permits
cost $5 per cord, with a minimum purchase of $20 and a maximum purchase
of 20 cords per household. Charge permits can be used forest-wide,
but there are some areas that are off-limits. Details on those areas
are written up in the permit.
New 2009 permits will come out Jan.1, 2009.
For information on other personal use and commercial use permits
including transplants and plants, pick up a brochure at one of the
