Travel Management Subcommittee

In July 2004, the Forest Service published a proposed rule governing OHV's and other motor vehicle use on national forests and grasslands. Under the proposed rule, the Forest Service would designate roads, trails, and areas for motor vehicle use. As designation is complete on a national forest or ranger district, motor vehicle use off of the designated system would be prohibited. On November 9, 2005, the Forest Service announced a Final Rule For Motorized Recreation.

To assist the Black Hills National Forest in the process, the National Forest Advisory Board Subcommittee on travel management is busy listening to ideas, suggestions, and concerns from off-highway enthusiasts, outdoor recreationists, interested stakeholders, and community members.

The information gathered by the public will help in developing recommendations to provide off-highway opportunities, while protecting natural resources, on the Black Hills National Forest.
