What's New

January - December, 2007 What Has Been New
2001   2002  2003 2004 2005 2006

These web pages have been added to our site or significantly modified to improve public access to Colorado's archival records:

  • September 24, 2007 - We have added more than 5,000 records to our database with the inclusion of Arapahoe County probate cases from 1902-1957.
  • August 3, 2007- We have added more than 80,000 names to our Historical Records Database and will soon be adding another 80,000. The names come from the divorce index that was compiled in the 1930s and 40s and spans as early as the 1870s to 1939. This index is available on microfilm and used to be available on-line through the Colorado Department of Health, Vital Records. A volunteer at the Archives extracted information from this index such as names, date, the court the case was filed in and the case number which is what we have loaded onto our database. What has been loaded as of now is the entire index A-Z by "plaintiff." We will also be loading the index by "defendant." Since both the plaintiff and defendant usually had the same last name, it should be relatively easy to find your "people". The Archives has in its custody many of the divorce cases referred to in the index but there are counties for which we have no court cases from that time period. Please see the Records Description for "Divorce Records" in order to see if we are likely to have the case file in our custody.
  • April 20, 2007 - We have added almost 30,000 Teacher Experience records to our Historical Records Database. These cards contain a great deal of information about the teachers listed including where they got their degrees, how long and where they taught, grades or subjects taught, total years of teaching experience, teacher certificate information and their Oath of Allegiance. These cards do not include Denver and each county may have different years listed. While the complete index spans 1899-1958, some counties will not include cards for some years.
  • Between January and April, 2007 we have added numerous indexes on the Historical Records Database including: Bar Admission Files (1899-1950); Mesa County Motor Vehicle Licenses 1913-1917; Spanish-American War Colorado Volunteers (1898-1899); Docked Horse Register (1899-1907); Master and Journeyman Horseshoers (1897-1920); Rio Grande County Teacher Certificate Applications (1874 -1893); Gilpin County District Court Filings (1874 -1882); Dolores County Court Cases (1881 - 1953); Denver War Risk Insurance Applications (1914 -1917). By April 20 we had 343,681 entries in the database.
  • Between January and April, 2007 we have added numerous digital documents to our digital records collection including: Cool Letterheads from schools, hotels, old Colorado towns and railroads; an early plat of Creede, Colorado; transcripts from the Alfred Packer Supreme Court Case. We have over 150 images on our digital site and are adding more frequently.
  • February, 2007 - The Executive Orders by Governor Owens are now on-line and we will be putting up press releases from his terms of office soon.
