The goal of the Consortium is to reduce the incidence and mortality of cancer in both parts of Ireland, which have among the highest rates of cancer in the Western world, by building research capacity and infrastructure on the island of Ireland. The Consortium is regarded as a major step toward enhancing relations between the U.S., Ireland, and Northern Ireland, bringing the U.S. and both parts of the island together in the fight against cancer.
