REPS. ED TOWNS AND YVETTE D. CLARKE TO HOST
AFFORDABLE HOUSING TOWN HALL MEETING

Brooklyn, New York -  Edolphus "Ed" Towns and Yvette D. Clarke are hosting an Affordable Housing Town Hall Meeting to equip residents with important information and resources about agencies who are working to address affordable housing in Brooklyn, New York. Scheduled panelists include Jack Hammer and Rubin Wolf from the New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development, Jim Quinlivan and Matthew Brian from the New York City Housing Development Corporation, Lydia Tom from Enterprise New York, Denise Scott from the Local Initiatives Support Corporation and Rhonda Lewis from the Bridge Street Development Corps.

DATE:  Monday, June 16th

TIME:  6:00 PM

PLACE: Berean Baptist Church
1635 Bergen Street (Between Utica & Rochester Avenues)
Brooklyn, NY 11213

Background:

The lack of affordable housing in Brooklyn is so severe that it threatens the health and welfare of the entire community, as this crisis reaches across all boundaries. According to recent reports, New York City is struggling to keep pace with the accelerated and considerable reduction in affordable Mitchell-Lama and Limited Dividend housing units.  With many rental properties that were subsidized by New York City and New York State being converted into market rate luxury condominiums and apartments, hard working Brooklyn residents are facing serious difficulties in securing affordable housing options. Without enough affordable units, households will undoubtedly pay more than they can afford and neglect other important needs such as food and health care, as families struggle to make ends meet.

This meeting is free and open to the public; all residents are encouraged to attend.
